The pond offers visitors abundant boating and fishing opportunities in a serene, Western Massachusetts landscape.
With a 3-mile perimeter, Richmond Pond offers a mid-distance and scenic loop for paddlers. Across the road on its southwestern end, the 250-acre Nordeen Marsh provides additional paddling opportunities for those willing to carry boats over the road. For prospective anglers, Richmond Pond comprises dozens of fish species and is stocked with trout by the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Wildlife. Additional species include bluegill, largemouth and rock bass, perch, pickerel, pumpkinseed, shiner, bullhead, and killifish.
Richmond Pond lies 1,100 feet above sea level in a valley east of the Taconic Mountain range, which can be seen from the pond. Suitable for car top and shallow draft boats, the maximum depth of the pond is 53 feet, and its average depth is 18 feet. In addition to a location for boat launching, the concrete boat ramp includes a large parking lot, which can hold roughly 30 vehicles and their trailers. For those considering fishing for consumption, information regarding the background of fish health in the pond is available at the Richmond Pond Association website.
