About Mohican Recreational Path - Syndicate Road Trailhead

This trailhead will bring visitors to the beginning of the Mohawk Trail: a multi-use path that travels alongside the Hoosic River. The trail is perfect for biking, walking, or rollerblading in the Berkshires. There are also benches along the pathway where visitors can relax on warm summer days. the Mohican Trail is 5 miles long in total.

At the parking lot, visitors will immediately find views of the Hoosic River. Then, after leaving the parking lot, visitors will head through a dense floodplain forest and arrive at the Williams College athletic fields. Overall, the athletic fields provide excellent views of the surrounding Berkshires throughout the year. When the weather begins to cool in autumn, these mountains burst with the yellows and oranges of fall foliage.

Continuing past Cole Avenue, visitors will arrive at the confluence of the Green River and the Hoosic River. Many local Western Massachusetts wildlife species, including songbirds and amphibians, are visible in this environment throughout the summer. The area is also ideal for fly fishing when the weather obliges. Beyond the Green River, the trail eventually turns to gravel as it continues toward the Spruces.

There is a designated parking lot for this trailhead off Syndicate Road, just before it intersects with Route 7. Visitors can also park at the Spruces off Route 2.
