About Housatonic River Access - Brookside Road

On Brookside Road, visitors can use a small parking area to access the Housatonic River. Visitors will have to portage their boats a short way to the river. The access to the river is steep and muddy, so be prepared to get wet. Visitors can paddle north to downtown Great Barrington or south into Sheffield, where a paddler can experience the meandering oxbows of the Housatonic. Visitors can also fish from the shore, but the fish are contaminated and cannot be consumed.
