About Fife Brook Boating Access

This parking area leads to a boating access launch point area on the Deerfield River. This river flows throughout Western Massachusetts and is well-known for fishing, rafting, and whitewater kayaking.

The Fife Brook launch point offers paddlers access to Class II rapids, which are excellent for beginner and intermediate paddlers. Then, further downstream at Zoar Gap, visitors will find class III rapids. There are also plenty of calm parts on the river, where kayakers and rafters can rest before the next rapids.

On the Deerfield River, visitors will greet scenic views and diverse wildlife. Numerous local bird species, such as hawks and herons, are easily visible along the side of the river. The Berkshires also rise from the river’s edges, providing boaters with excellent mountain views at all times of the year. When the weather cools, these hills eventually turn yellow and orange with the vibrance of fall foliage.

Visitors will find a parking area on the side of River Road, between the Hoosac Tunnel and the Bear Swamp Hydroelectric Dam. This parking area also features fishing access for anglers looking to wade into the river. Further downstream, visitors will find parking for other take-out points and portages.
