Esau's Heel Trail is a delightful 2-mile forested loop trail in the Berkshires. The trail takes about 30 minutes and is an easy, flat, and family-friendly hike. The trail is popular among locals; you can often find others hiking it with their dogs. The trail begins on an abandoned road before it loops around on a woodland trail. The old road portion of the trail is relatively straight and traverses a mixed forest, with conifer species such as white pines, hemlocks, and spruce and deciduous species such as maple, beech, and birch. The loop section of the trail goes predominately through a deciduous forest, allowing distant views through the trees when the leaves are off the trees. The trail is also open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.
The trail is named after the biblical story of twin brothers Jacob and Esau and is on the failed Jacobs Well subdivision. The trail is located on Jacobs Ladder Trail Scenic Byway (Route 20), which traverses Western Massachusetts.

Parking for the Esau’s Heel Trail is in a medium sized lot comprised of grass and dirt. The lot contains uneven sections throughout, although the overall lot is flat. A small wooden picnic area sits adjacent to the parking area. The trailhead can be accessed between two medium sized boulders. The 1.5-mile trail consists of mowed grass throughout, featuring even cross slopes and minimal grading. Additional spurs and side trails can be taken to lengthen the trail to 2 miles, although these spurs feature steeper grades and rocky sections.
