Bidwell Park is a little-known town park that offers open space along the Konkapot River in the center of Monterey. The park is a family-friendly spot to enjoy passive outdoor activities, such as picnicking, viewing wildlife, or taking in the serene natural environment of the Berkshires. The park's main area is a flat, grassy field by the river that contains a few picnic tables and easy access to the water. Parkgoers can take a quick dip into the shallow stream or even try fly fishing. However, this section of the Konkapot is not known for the large fish populations seen elsewhere in Western Massachusetts. Regardless, such easy access to the water makes it an appealing spot to cast a line. A much-appreciated feature of the park is that it is shaded by canopies of pine and birch trees, making it an easy escape from the summer sun.
Overall, Bidwell Park is best suited for visitors seeking a small space to enjoy relaxing outdoor activities. Since it is hidden behind the town library with little signage, many locals are unaware that this park even exists, making it an ideal spot to escape the crowds at many of the county's outdoor sites during peak season. Visitors can access the park from the library, where a quaint walking bridge brings visitors to the main trail leading to the river.
