Horseback Riding
Bakerville Conservation Area is a dense woodland property managed by the City of Pittsfield. Upon arrival, visitors will find a wide gravel walking trail through dense woodland. Maples and pines dominate this forest, and plenty of local Western Massachusetts wildlife species are easily seen. Various bird species, for example, are abundant in these woods throughout the spring and summer.
The path continues through the forest and follows a swift-moving creek, which echoes throughout the surrounding trees. Then, the pathway arrives at a powerline field before soon ending.
The remainder of the conservation area is undeveloped and brushy. Regardless, on the park's north side, visitors will find excellent views of wetlands along the Southwest Branch of the Housatonic River. Pittsfield plans to eventually use this property to link several Berkshire parks with a walking and biking trail.
A small parking lot is off Barker Road, just after its branches from South Mountain Road.
Tell others about this place
The parking lot at Bakerville Conservation Area is a large gravel and dirt parking lot with no accessible parking and is prone to mud and standing water. From the parking area, there is a 9-foot-wide gravel path that runs down towards the power lines. This trail is mostly flat and even, but at some points can get rocky and uneven. The trail has some small sections that are prone to mud and may have potholes where water has washed away some of the trail. The trail accommodates adaptive equipment, such as mountain bikes, due to its wide width, which provides ample passing space, and the turn radius exceeds 6 feet. The trail may also be able to accommodate other adaptive equipment, but there may be sections where the trail accessibility becomes variable.
