Greenwater Pond Boat Launch
Greenwater Pond
Becket, MA
Motorized Boating | Canoe/Kayak/SUP
The Yokum Pond Boat Launch is an unpaved ramp located on Leonhardt Road, on the pond's north side. The space is ideal for launching shallow-draft motorboats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards through the water, as this area is too shallow for launches from a trailer. Yokum Pond's maximum depth is 10 feet, and the average depth is 7 feet, so it becomes extremely shallow in some places. The artificial pond is just over 100 acres in size and has approximately two miles of shoreline in total. Homes exist along the shore but are typically set back and somewhat hidden among the dense greenery and forested area surrounding the pond. Due to limited access points and mainly private land ownership along the shoreline, the pond is typically quiet, making it an incredibly serene spot for kayaking or fishing in the Berkshires.
For those hoping to fish, common catches include chain pickerel, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and yellow perch. Due to the shallow depths in Yokum Pond, ice fishing can be safe during the winter, and the pond typically becomes a location available for ice fishing earlier than other water bodies in the area. Some parking is available on the access road and along Leonhardt Road.
