About Undermountain Rest

Undermountain Rest is a popular location right off the road for viewing the expansive beauty in Western Massachusetts. This trail consists of six steps up a slight slope and a short distance to the bench at the summit, which overlooks the Undermountain Farm and the tranquil Parsons Marsh. Visitors should look for a sign saying, "Yes, you can sit here!" along the northern edge of Undermountain Road and opposite Undermountain Farm's stables, and from here, they can take in the breathtaking view. Using binoculars, visitors might be able to spot some of the unique bird species that live in Parson's Marsh and the surrounding area, such as great blue herons and loons.

In 2012, the Berkshire Natural Resources Council received a small building lot near Parsons Marsh, and with it, they constructed Undermountain Rest. For years since, this has been a very popular location for artists and photographers, along with anyone interested in enjoying some scenic views of the stunning landscapes of the Berkshires. This location provides a beautiful place for families to enjoy the outdoors. No parking is available for Undermountain Rest, so visitors should prepare to park along the street, park elsewhere and walk to the lookout, or take in the stunning view from the car.
