About The Common

The Common is a family-friendly picnic area and gathering space managed by the City of Pittsfield. Overall, visitors will have several options for an enjoyable day of outdoor recreation in the Berkshires.

First, the park features a playground and splash pad, perfect for young kids. A pavilion with picnic tables is nearby, where families can eat lunch on hot summer days. This is also an excellent place for small events and large gatherings with friends or family.

Beyond the playground, there is a small stage. Throughout the spring and summer, this stage hosts events and concerts; visitors can lay down a blanket, listen to the show, and watch the clouds pass overhead. Also, much of the park rests underneath the shade of tall trees, which provide space to cool down and relax when the weather is hot in Western Massachusetts.

The park also has numerous paved walking paths. Visitors can take their pets, amble throughout the park, or go for a short run.

Then, on the park's north side, visitors will find an outdoor basketball court. This arena is ideal for both competitive team play and individual practice.

Since there is no designated parking lot for the common, visitors should park elsewhere in downtown Pittsfield.
