Triangle Park
Lenox, MA
The Root Reservoir Watershed is in the town of Lenox, which is teeming with opportunities for outdoor recreation. This area contains a vast network of trails designed specifically for mountain biking. Each single-track trail is clear and wide enough to have a comfortable ride through the dense woods of the Berkshires. The paths winding through the forest have countless species of birds and mammals that call the area home, which observative and keen-eyed bikers can spot. They might see white-tailed deer darting through the trees, owls and hawks in the treetops, or even a bear roaming the forest.
Although designed for mountain biking, Root Reservoir is also an outstanding place to hike, as the trails are broad enough to walk on comfortably and only have some steep sections. The coursing network of up and down tracks on the top of Lenox Mountain is part of the High Road, a long-distance hiking trail project that the BNRC began work on in 2021 to connect the beautiful landscapes of Western Massachusetts. The Root Reservoir Watershed trails are off the beaten path; the trailhead has a small parking lot at the end of the winding dirt Reservoir Road. The web of hiking and biking trails here provides an engaging experience for families and anyone interested in enjoying the tranquil forests of Lenox.
