Park Street Park is a family-friendly park in a lively Great Barrington neighborhood. With a large open field and plenty of shade, the park is an ideal picnic area for a mellow day in the Berkshires. The mild slope of the park makes it a particularly relaxing place to sit or lie down. For those seeking more physical activity, the park has plenty of space to throw a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or run around. For younger kids, the swing set at the top of the park offers a fun way to enjoy the site. By the swing set, hiking trails enter the East Mountain State Forest for a challenging but rewarding hike up scenic East Rock. The main trail is less steep near the park than it is further up the mountain, and its twisty path and soft surface make it a solid spot for mountain biking.
In the winter, the park fills up with neighborhood kids after every snowfall, as the gentle 50-foot drop from the top of the park to the bottom makes it great for sledding—a beloved pastime for every kid in Western Massachusetts. While the park is close to moderately trafficked East Street, its border consists of the quiet neighborhood roads Quarry Street and Park Street, making it a safe space for kids of all ages to roam freely. Limited parking spots are available along Park Street.
