About Norman Rockwell Museum

Plan an outing to Norman Rockwell Museum’s beautiful 36-acre campus set above the Housatonic River just 2.5 miles from Stockbridge center. Site of the former Linwood Estate and later a working dairy farm, the property features rolling hills, wooded areas, historical buildings, and stunning Berkshire vistas, including river views and trails. Museum admission is not required for enjoying the campus.

Explore the property using paved paths (with modest to medium inclines) as well as field paths that meander down to the Housatonic River, where the Riverside Meditation Bench offers a spot for reflection. Wander among specimen trees (identified with labels) and flower gardens with native plantings. An apple grove with trees planted for each of the Rockwell grandchildren is another campus highlight; please pick an apple during autumn apple season.

During the summer months, outdoor games and creative activities are available to all, including children’s painting easels, chalk, checkers, corn hole, hula hoops, and more. Children will enjoy the campus’ kid-friendly climbable sculptures created by artist Peter Rockwell, Norman Rockwell’s youngest son. Picnicking is encouraged across the site (bring your own picnic or dine at the Terrace Café, open seasonally). Visitors are always welcome to sketch or paint on the grounds using their own materials. Newly installed exterior display panels offer highlights of the property’s history, as well as information about Rockwell’s Studio (located on the grounds and open seasonally), the artist’s Stockbridge residence, and other topics of visitor interest. Spend an afternoon exploring nature in historic and artistic surroundings!
