Snowshoeing | Hiking | Fishing
Lower Bowker’s Woods, owned by the Laurel Hill Association, is a small hiking area with family-friendly trails. Visitors to the property will immediately find a hiking trail that leads to the local train tracks. Upon crossing the train tracks, the forest opens into an expansive grove of immense trees. A loop trail then takes visitors through this unique environment. On one side of the property, the trail follows a bluff with scenic views of the Housatonic River. Benches rest idly along this part of the trail, allowing visitors to relax and watch local wildlife interact in the river’s wetlands. Then, on the other side of the property, a narrow path leads hikers through a stand of immense pines. Visitors will also see parts of Berkshire history on this side: the trail crosses old stone walls and travels through a sunken road.
Overall, Lower Bowker’s Woods is excellent for a short day of hiking and wildlife viewing in Western Massachusetts. When cold weather arrives, the trails also become ideal for snowshoeing.
The property has very limited parking on Glendale Middle Road, past Castle Hill Road and the Housatonic River.
Dogs must be on leash.
