Hemlock Brook is a small, family-friendly hiking area managed by Williamstown Rural Lands. The property offers several hiking trails that roam through hemlock forests and expansive wetlands.
Upon arriving at the trailhead, visitors will find plenty of options. Going straight, hikers will travel alongside the clear, fast-moving water of Hemlock Brook, which echoes throughout the forest. Visitors can hike on this easy path and watch the mesmerizing water travel downstream. Eventually, many other paths branch from this trail and spread throughout the surrounding forest ecosystem. Visitors will likely see traces of numerous local Western Massachusetts wildlife species, including foxes, woodpeckers, and owls.
Visitors can also follow signs to Harmon Pond. Before arriving at the pond, the trail will amble over mossy roots and long bog boards. Then, the forest will open onto a serene wetland ecosystem. Along with seeing waterfowl and amphibians, visitors to the pond will encounter a scenic view of the Berkshires toward the west.
Visitors will find parking on a small dirt road off Southbound Route 7, just after it branches from Route 2. To reach the trails, hikers must walk through Margaret Lindley Park. This property has an artificial beach area and swimming hole fed by Hemlock Brook. There is also an expansive lawn with picnic tables and grills.
