Dewey Park, located in a peaceful Great Barrington neighborhood on Gilmore Avenue, is a humble town park that provides a large open field for visitors to enjoy. The field is primarily flat without any obstacles or structures, making it an ideal spot to create a makeshift soccer or football field, as creating a large, unobstructed playing field in the park's main open area is easy. Other popular activities at the park include throwing a frisbee, flying a kite, or playing tag. Locals enjoy playing with their dogs in the park, and visitors are welcome to bring their four-legged friends as long as waste is picked up. A common sight in the park is children learning to swing a bat and throw a ball, proving that America's pastime is still alive in Western Massachusetts. However, more experienced players should search elsewhere in the Berkshires for baseball due to the park's nearby buildings. Near the parking lot, there is a swing set that can entertain the youngest visitors to the park, and there are a few benches in the park that make it easy for parents to monitor their kids as they play.
Overall, Dewey Park is best for visitors who do not need much more than an open field to entertain themselves. However, keep an eye out for new features as the park is slated for future improvements over the next few years. Parking is permitted in the courthouse lot.
