Wildlife Viewing | Snowshoeing | Hiking
The Corn Warrior Reserve is an undeveloped 38-acre property primarily used for hunting and nature study. The reserve is best known for its ecological diversity, as over 190 plant species are found on the property, making it one of the most biologically diverse spaces in the Berkshires. Additionally, state officials suspect that the property could harbor many rare and endangered animal species due to its unique ecology. Hunters have had success with various game species, including white-tailed deer and wild turkeys. The mature forest also offers plenty of wildlife viewing and birding opportunities, especially within the meadows that offer distant and up-close forest views.
There are no trails at the reserve, meaning visitors should be prepared to navigate the property independently. The terrain is rugged but not too hilly, and wetlands can be found toward the northern section of the property. The reserve used to be the site of two gravel quarries, which curious visitors can still see evidence of and explore up close. Visitors can park in the frontage area along Adsit Crosby Road or Hartsville Mill River Road, which both border the property. Overall, Corn Warrior is best suited for adventurous individuals looking to primatively explore the natural environment of Western Massachusetts.
