Card Pond is a popular recreational space in West Stockbridge, and it is known as one of the most family-friendly beaches in the Berkshires. The large, guarded beach is its primary attraction. On a hot day, the beach fills up with visitors and locals swimming, sunbathing, or building a castle. One of the unique features of this beach is a dock in the deeper section of the water. The dock is loved by visitors of all ages, whether it is used to jump into the water or as a relaxed sunbathing spot. Children also enjoy the playground, with slides, a jungle gym, and a glider. Families and groups of friends like to use the park's picnic tables and open grass space, as it is a peaceful spot for picnicking with plenty of shaded spaces.
Near the beach, paddlers can launch their boats into the pond, as kayaking, canoeing, and standup paddleboarding are popular activities on the water. Although a relatively small lake, the half-mile trip around the perimeter showcases opportunities to explore local wildlife and take in views of rolling Western Massachusetts hills. The pond is full of lily pads and cattails, making it excellent for birding or finding amphibians. Additionally, anglers have had success reeling in largemouth bass and chain pickerel.
Overall, Card Pond offers a variety of fun ways to explore the outdoors, whether alone, with friends, or as a family. Card Pond has plenty of parking right off Route 41, and visitors often enjoy checking out the charming downtown West Stockbridge before heading home.
