About Allen Heights Park

Allen Heights Park is a family-friendly field and play area managed by the City of Pittsfield. The park is perfect for a short pitstop on warm summer days in the Berkshires. Upon arrival, visitors will find an expansive lawn with playground equipment and picnic tables. The play area is ideal for young kids, making the park an excellent spot for a family picnic.

The park features a forest of tall spruces that provide ample shade when the weather is hot. Families can bring lunch, take a break from the sun, and then play on the playground. Plenty of local Western Massachusetts wildlife species, including songbirds and chipmunks, are visible in the park throughout the year.

There is a small designated parking spot at the end of Somerset Avenue. Visitors can also park along Windsor Avenue where appropriate.

Accessibility Assessment

There are no accessible features at this location.

The parking area for Allen Heights Park is a grassy pull-off at the end of Sommerset Ave. The parking area is grassy and uneven, prone to mud. At the entrance to the park, there is a locked gate, so visitors will have to walk through the two-and-a-half-foot openings around the gate. The openings on either end of the gate are also rocky and rooted.  There is no path access from the parking area to the park amenities, so visitors will have to walk through the grass. The playground's surface consists of woodchips with a 2-inch slippery wood lip separating it from the surrounding grass. The playground equipment is also not specifically designed to be accessible.
