About Becket Quarry and Forest

The Becket Quarry & Forest, located on Quarry Road, offers a chance to enjoy nature and learn about the area's industrial heritage. The Chester-Hudson Granite Quarry extracted Chester Blue granite until the 1940s when it was shut down. The equipment used at the quarry was abandoned in place, leaving behind a glimpse of its history. In the 1990s, the Becket Land Trust purchased and opened the quarry to the public. Hikers can enjoy over 7 miles of trails around the forested property and learn about the site's history. The quarry provides amazing view of the dramatic 75-foot cliffs jutting from the water. There are also views from the Heights Trail and the entrance road. A guy derrick is also visible, towering 55 feet over the quarry pit, providing a stunning view. This is a unique site in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts and is a must-see for anyone interested in the region's history.

Parking is only allowed in the designated parking lot, not on the road. A fee is charged for non-Trustees members. Swimming and cliff diving at the quarry is prohibited.
